Broward County 55+ Healthcare, Zone by Zone

Century Village, Kings Point, Wynmoor, and Hollybrook don’t all share the same hospital access. Here’s which real hospital systems are realistically closest, organized by Broward’s three 55+ zones: Coastal, Central, and Western.

Broward County has more hospital capacity than most Sun Belt retirement markets its size — four major systems operate here, and none of the county’s major 55+ communities is truly far from an emergency room. But “Broward has good hospitals” and “my specific community has a good hospital nearby” are different claims. Century Village East in Deerfield Beach, Kings Point in Tamarac, and Century Village Pembroke Pines sit in three different parts of the county, and each one leans on a different mix of systems. This guide answers the questions we hear most often, organized by the same three zones our Broward County market hub uses to organize the county’s 55+ communities: Coastal (Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Hallandale Beach), Central (Tamarac, Coconut Creek, Sunrise, Margate), and Western (Pembroke Pines, Parkland, Davie).

Coastal Zone Questions (Century Village East, Palm Aire, Leisureville)

Which hospital is closest if I live in Century Village East in Deerfield Beach?
Coastal

The nearest full-service hospital is Broward Health North, which is located directly in Deerfield Beach and is part of the public Broward Health system. Broward Health North is the system’s designated facility for this stretch of coastal Broward, and it’s the option residents of Century Village East most commonly cite as their closest ER. For anything requiring a larger specialty bench, Broward Health Medical Center in downtown Fort Lauderdale — the system’s flagship and a Level I trauma center — is a drive south down the coast.

What about Pompano Beach — Palm Aire Country Club and Leisureville?
Coastal

Palm Aire and Leisureville sit between Deerfield Beach and Fort Lauderdale, which puts them within reach of several systems rather than locked into just one. Broward Health Imperial Point, located on North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, and Holy Cross Health (also on North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale) are both realistic options for this stretch of coastal Broward, along with Broward Health North to the north. Holy Cross is a well-regarded nonprofit hospital with a long track record in this corridor.

Exact proximity depends on which section of Pompano Beach you’re in — confirm actual drive time from your specific address before assuming a fixed number.

Is there anything closer to Hallandale Beach, at the southern end of the coastal zone?
Coastal

Hallandale Beach sits at Broward’s southern tip, close to the Broward-Miami-Dade line. Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood — Memorial Healthcare System’s flagship academic and trauma center — is the system most residents in this southern coastal stretch end up using, since it sits just north of the county line and is one of the largest hospitals in the region.

Central Zone Questions (Kings Point, Wynmoor, Mainlands, Oriole, Sunrise Lakes, Lakes of Carriage Hills)

Which hospital is closest if I live in Kings Point, Wynmoor Village, or the Mainlands in Tamarac?
Central

HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital sits directly in Tamarac and is the closest full-service hospital for Kings Point, Wynmoor Village, Mainlands of Tamarac Lakes, and Lakes of Carriage Hills. It’s part of the HCA Florida Healthcare network, which gives residents a path to that system’s broader specialty network if something more complex comes up. For residents on the eastern side of Tamarac, Broward Health Coral Springs in neighboring Coral Springs is also a realistic option.

What about Coconut Creek, Sunrise, and Margate — Sunrise Lakes and Oriole Golf & Tennis?
Central

This stretch of Central Broward is served by a mix of systems. Broward Health Coral Springs is a common option for Coconut Creek residents given its proximity to the northern part of this zone. For Margate, residents commonly cite HCA Florida Northwest Hospital as their nearest full-service option. Sunrise Lakes residents, further south and east in this zone, are typically closer to Broward Health Medical Center in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the system’s Level I trauma flagship, or to Coral Springs depending on the specific part of Sunrise.

Central Broward is the widest of the three zones geographically, so “closest hospital” genuinely varies within it more than in Coastal or Western. Confirm your specific drive time before assuming any one system is the default.

Is there a teaching hospital or major referral center within reach of the Central zone?
Central

Yes — Broward Health Medical Center in downtown Fort Lauderdale is the county’s Level I trauma center and the deepest specialty bench in the public Broward Health system, and it’s a reasonable drive from anywhere in the Central zone. HCA Florida’s broader network of Florida hospitals is also accessible through a Woodmont or Northwest Hospital referral if a Central zone resident needs a higher level of specialty care than either facility offers directly.

Western Zone Questions (Century Village Pembroke Pines, Hollybrook, Four Seasons at Parkland)

Which hospital is closest if I live in Century Village Pembroke Pines or Hollybrook Golf & Tennis?
Western

Pembroke Pines has more in-city hospital capacity than any other part of Broward’s 55+ market. Memorial Hospital West and Memorial Hospital Pembroke are both located directly in Pembroke Pines, and both are part of Memorial Healthcare System, the large public system based in south Broward. Century Village Pembroke Pines and Hollybrook Golf & Tennis residents are typically closest to one or the other depending on which side of the city they’re on.

What about Four Seasons at Parkland, at the far northwest edge of the Western zone?
Western

Parkland sits further north than the rest of the Western zone communities, closer to the Central zone geographically. Broward Health Coral Springs, just south of Parkland, is the option most Four Seasons at Parkland residents cite as their closest full-service hospital. Broward Health Medical Center and the Memorial system facilities further south remain accessible with a longer drive.

Is there anything closer to Davie, or a more specialized option in the Western zone?
Western

Memorial Hospital Miramar, just south of Pembroke Pines, is a realistic option for residents on the southern edge of the Western zone. Further west and south, Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital in Weston is a nationally known specialty and general hospital that residents throughout Western Broward sometimes travel to for advanced cardiac, cancer, or transplant-level care, even when it isn’t their closest ER. For the county’s biggest trauma and academic center, Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood remains the region’s major referral point from the Western zone as well as the Coastal one.

Weston and Davie sit at the edge of this zone's practical geography — Cleveland Clinic Weston is a genuine asset for the region, but it is not necessarily the closest ER for every Western zone community. Verify drive time and in-network status directly.

What This Means When You’re Comparing Communities

No zone in Broward County is genuinely far from emergency care — that’s one of the real advantages of this market over more rural 55+ destinations. But the specific system you’ll actually use differs meaningfully by zone. Coastal zone buyers (Century Village East, Palm Aire, Leisureville) lean on Broward Health North, Broward Health Imperial Point, and Holy Cross. Central zone buyers (Kings Point, Wynmoor, Mainlands, Sunrise Lakes, Oriole, Lakes of Carriage Hills) lean on HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital and Broward Health Coral Springs. Western zone buyers (Century Village Pembroke Pines, Hollybrook, Four Seasons at Parkland) lean on Memorial Hospital West, Memorial Hospital Pembroke, and Memorial Hospital Miramar, with Cleveland Clinic Weston as a specialty option nearby.

Before you buy in any of these communities, verify two things directly rather than relying on general reputation: which Medicare Advantage plans are actually in-network at the hospital nearest your specific address, and whether that hospital currently offers the specialty services you may need (cardiac catheterization, stroke certification, oncology). Hospital networks and service lines change, and a system that was in-network with your plan last year may not be this year.

A note on what we didn’t include. We deliberately avoided naming specific urgent care chains, individual physician groups, or rehab facilities in this guide, since those change far more often than hospital systems and are easy to verify yourself with a quick search once you know which hospital system serves your zone.
